Craig Wescoe's Dogs in Boats (KLD - Retired)

Casual Mono-White Vehicle

Sideboard

Looking for blazing speed, surprising strength, and insane fun? Then look no further!

Seriously, this deck can win on T3, was almost played at Pro Tour Aether Revolt, and is the most fun I've had playing Standard in ages.

Confession: ALL the credit here goes to Craig Wescoe. I just wish I could brew something as good as this deck, from his article (with gameplay video) over at TCGplayer.

If you're interested, my personal version of the deck is over at Dogs in Boats - Personal (AER). It's almost identical, except it has 2x Stasis Snare in the sideboard for Gideon and big beaters.

TURN 3 WIN? REALLY?

  • T1: Consulate Dreadnought .
  • T2: 2x Toolcraft Exemplar. Row the Boat with the Exemplars (during Beginning of Combat phase, after they power-up). Swing for 7.
  • T3: Lupine Prototype and any 1-drop Creature. Row the Boat with Robowolf and the 1-drop. Swing for 13. Hand opponent a Kleenex to wipe away his or her tears.

LUPINE PROTOTYPE? REALLY?

  • Lupine Prototype is almost never dead on board. With the exception of a rare Land flood, he's usually ready to start swinging on T3. Or there's a Boat there for him to row. Or I just mulligan (which is actually beneficial, as that helps bring Robowolf online sooner).
  • And even if Robowolf is "dead", he's still a great Tempo play ... opponents will almost always leave a Creature back when he's out, as they don't want to get caught on the backswing if I empty my hand the next turn.

STITCHER'S GRAFT? REALLY?

  • Stitcher's Graft turns 3-power Creatures into 6-power Creatures so they can Row.
  • Sure, the 'doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step' effect on Stitcher's Graft is a real downside. But it only triggers when an equipped creature Attacks, not when it Crews.
  • It's rare to get both Always Watching and Stitcher's Graft out, but it's amazing when it happens. Stitcher's Graft will still trigger, but because the Vigilance effect from Always Watching grants 'Attacking doesn't cause creatures to tap', it doesn't usually matter. Watch out though, because if you Attack with Graft one turn, but then tap later (e.g., to Row the Boat on your opponent's turn for defense, or you get hit by an opponent's Topplegeist, or whatever), Graft's effect will apply on your next Untap Step. :-(

DOGS IN BOATS? REALLY?

  • Well, yeah. But it's not like this:

  • It's more like this:

Thanks in advance for your suggestions and comments!

And please don't hesitate to +1 Upvote this deck if you like it. Especially if you like it enough to put it in a folder! :-)
