Burn your opponents, not your wallet!
I've been working on many different approaches to building a decent Modern deck on a budget and this is the next in line. It is capable of a Turn 3 win, here's how:
- T1: Mountain, Goblin Guide, opponent at 18
- T2: Mountain, 2x any combination of Goblin Guide or Vexing Devil, let's say 2x Vexing Devil for the example. Opponent is at 10. Swing with the Guide, opponent at 8.
- T3: A swing with the Guide puts the opponent at 6, and 2x any combo of Lightning Bolt, Lava Spike, Searing Blaze, Skullcrack, Shard Volley, or Hellspark Elemental will get it done.
This quick win becomes even easier if the opponent is damaging themselves with shocklands, fetchlands, Dark Confidant, etc. Advice and +1 are greatly appreciated!
For stricter budgets, replace Vexing Devil with Spark Elemental.
If proxies are allowed or you have no budget limitations:
- +4 Scalding Tarn
- +4 Arid Mesa
- -6 Mountain
- +4 Grim Lavamancer
- +2 Shard Volley
- -2 Hellspark Elemental
- -2 Flames of the Blood Hand
- -4 Vexing Devil
