Enchantment (1)

Creature (1)

"Born from the oldest red cedar, nursed on the sap of the tallest spruce, coronated under the mightiest pine."

The denizens of the Vastwood pay homage to many beasts of legend and myth. But none are as revered as Ayula, Queen Among Bears. Truly blessed is the shaman or druid who happens upon a runic glowing claw mark in the far northern wood. A monarch with no equal in all the lands of beast and men, Ayula offers protection, strength, and vigor to the groves of her devoted followers. She is the undisputed Queen of the Ursine, but also has notable devotees among other legendary champions like the human druid Kamahl, Fist of Krosa, the elven elementalist Nissa, Vastwood Seer  , the planeswalking Vivien, Champion of the Wilds, and the elven shaman Yeva, Nature's Herald.

The deck is a focused attack on your opponents' creature (and sometimes land) base. Ayula is a fast commander who inspires an aggressive start, but as is common with aggressive "weenie" strategies she can run out of gas and stall in the mid to late games. While I did add a healthy amount of bears to the build, I chose not to add every 2/2 for 2 I could find and instead added other support and sub-themes to the deck.

Primal Vigor, Panharmonicon, and Helm of the Host look to boost and abuse Ayula's triggers increasing her gift of +1/+1 counters or doubling-up on fights. In the event that Ayula is not on the board, Ulvenwald Tracker also triggers the fight mechanic. Bonds of Mortality and Arcane Lighthouse help the bears deal with hexproof and/or indestructible creatures.

Kamahl allows for a bit of focused land destruction during fights, plus provides the threat of MLD in the event of a board wipe from our opponents. His companion Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma reduces his casting cost as well as some of our other more powerful bears and non-bears.

The inclusion of Ayula's Influence inspired a bit of a land sacrifice and recursion package which includes Crucible of Worlds, Life from the Loam, and Groundskeeper. Two of which help recur the Command Beacon and bypass the tax for a commander we'll most likely need to cast multiple times. The land base is also built around Snow-Covered Forests and their interaction with Extraplanar Lens to +1 their green mana-production. Into the North, Sylvan Scrying, and even Tempt with Discovery can fetch out Scrying Sheets for deck thinning and to ensure consistent land drops.

Yeva and Vivien allow us to play our bears and friends at instant speed. Fast bears are better bears.

Whiteout provides some added protection against flyers, and has synergy with our land recursion package.
