Hello hello! Welcome to Atraxa's Super Fiends! Yes, fiends.. there's nothing friendly about this deck 😈

As a super quick introduction, I'm an old returning player in magic. After nearly 5 years away from the game, I've come back and boy is there some new goodies to look at! Casual Multiplayer EDH has always been my staple, though having returned to the game, I'm even interested in taking this deck (and other EDH brews) to my local EDH competitions.

My enjoyment from the game lies just as heavily in deck-creation as it does in gameplay - and I hope to share that passion with you guys!

Ever since the release of planeswalkers in 2007, I knew I'd found a new favourite card type. Obviously we were well away back then from the vast arsenal we have available today! But the thrill and excitement of getting your planeswalker down has always stayed the same.

This deck aims to capitalise on that awesome feeling just about every turn! You'll make paper friends, you'll lose real friends, all while having a blast. What's not to love?

I'm always looking for any suggestions and ideas! Additionally, don't be scared to ask any questions!

I've missed out on 5 years worth of magic, forgive me if I've left out some new go-to staples!

Deck Tech

For the deck tech, I've split planeswalkers and all other cards apart. It's a little too hard to categorise planeswalkers into labels like "removal" etc. Rather, I'll give my reasoning as to why I've picked certain planeswalkers and left out others. Additional sections include; Combos and Opening Hands.

  • Combos

    The below section is dedicated to covering the various combos available within this deck. By technical definition, there really is only one combo within this deck, but I also want to address certain other card combinations that may be initially hard to pick up on.

    Infinite Combo

    The infinite combo is actually pretty easy to pull off. It then can allow outlets of infinite loyalty, mana, and draw, depending on what cards are available. I don't really like instant-win combos, and whilst using the Ult of every one of your Planeswalkers certainly gets close, it doesn't allow for killing all opponents on the spot. With this in mind, whilst it would be easy to do, I've left out any possibility for outlets like infinite damage, life or mill.

    The initial combo requires Gilder Bairn equipped with Paradise Mantle with Training Grounds on the battlefield. Just these 3 pieces will give you infinite loyalty on any planeswalker you control.

    For infinite mana, you then need a Crystalline Crawler as well, removing each counter as you double them with Gilder Bairn.

    You might want to wait though until you also have a Sphinx's Revelation available, allowing you to draw as many cards as you need.

    Pillow Fort Combo

    The pillow fort combo is definitely a late game one. It may be playgroup dependent, but pillow-fort playstyle is awfully popular at my own playgroup. Everyone playing seemingly prefers longer drawn out games. A lot of political friendships are made and the games are always a laugh.

    With that in mind, my Pillow Fort combo is one of the oldest in the book. In it's most basic form, it requires Sterling Grove coupled with Privileged Position for hexproof on all permanents and shroud on all enchantments.

    Add in Avacyn, Angel of Hope for permanent indestructability and you're looking pretty safe.

    The combo will still fall to global exile (cards like Worldfire) and creature sacrifice. For this reason, cards like Tajuru Preserver have been on my watch-list, but I'd rather not take up any further slots for this just yet.

    Note: This combo is the reason that Privileged Position is being used over cards like Shalai, Voice of Plenty.
