Atla's Claw Game!

This deck isn't quite throwing all of it's eggs in one basket. Pun intended.

What are we doing? How do we play the claw game?

Most Atla Palani, Nest Tender builds are Dino-Tribal, or full on Egg based polymorph effects. Well, I don't really LOVE either. Atla Palani, Nest Tender's ability is indeed awesome, but she can be easily dealt with, and we can be left with a board of eggs that do little for us beside chump out once Atla Palani, Nest Tender is locked out. Unfortunately that leaves us SCRAMBLING for a way to survive. I never want us to be in that position, so we intend to tune this deck a little bit more for flexibility rather than purity.

Let's face it, there are some insanely good dinosaurs. We are going to use them.. but we don't need to settle for the lesser dinosaurs, when there's plenty of other great creatures in Naya colors that will help us out and be really fun to drop.

Focus.

Let's remove the populate mechanic almost entirely, other than it being an added bonus to removal or some other utile spell. This clears more slots for ramp and creatures, so we can play the deck well, even if Atla Palani, Nest Tender is locked up somehow.

Our creatures will either provide more Eggs, wipe/kill existing Eggs, hurt opponents, or do something else super helpful on the way in with ETB triggers. We will have ways to wipe our own Eggs out while still keeping our big threats alive, and we will focus on making sure we have some haste and evasion available for said threats, so they can actually connect and win us some games. This will come at a sacrifice, so say goodbye to most control, and pretty much all of the populate garbage. We still need a bit of draw after all, and we just can't have everything while staying tuned in on our main objectives. The great thing is, if we can keep Atla Palani, Nest Tender online, she herself basically welcomes board wipes.

We're going to include some of the more synergistic creatures and enchantments for the direction we are aiming. For example, a completely overlooked creature is Novablast Wurm. No, it's not quite the bomb that Worldspine Wurm is, but it has an interesting interaction here. We can play it, use it to block any big ground threats from others, and when we have a few Eggs down, we can fearlessly attack. This keeps the 7/7 Wurm on board, and allows us to turn over a handful of free fatties while ultimately killing off everyone else's creatures. It gets pretty wild.

I've also added Purphoros, God of the Forge to the maybe board. As pointed out to me recently, Purphoros, God of the Forge can give Atla Palani, Nest Tender the +1/+1 she needs to stay alive when Mirror Entity enters. That can also get out of hand quickly for our opponents.

Closing Thoughts

For now, I don't plan on making a full-blown proper primer. The cards uses are all fairly obvious if you take a moment to think about them. Changelings are more eggs, or Dinos, or really anything you need that may work to your advantage at any given time. Mirror Entity can be used for zero, wiping our Eggs and turning over our real threats. Like a 1-card combo. Wonderful. So yes, this deck utilizes Eggs like other Atla Palani, Nest Tender builds to some degree, BUT, you're not only flipping Dinos, and many of the cards can be played even if Atla Palani, Nest Tender is tied up.

Enjoy.
